Kazane guys were all over the place this weekend. At the Bryan Park Circuit Race Shawn took 3rd in the 3/4 with Stu nabbing 8th in the 1/2/3. It’s a great race and I’m bummed to have missed it.

Jon and Stafford were on the track in ATL this weekend. Check out twotoneatl.com for some info on that. Also, Cecil was down in NC at the Piedmont Triad Omnium, an awesome 3-day race in the Chapel Hill area.

I took part in the inaugural Alleghany Gran Fondo in the Covington/Clifton Forge area. This was one amazing ride. Some competed, some – like me – simply survived. It was 88 miles with two times over a decent climb to get you tired, plus at the 60 mile point the most brutal climb I’ve ever attempted. This ride will be back next year. I suggest everyone do it. The support is awesome and the scenery is incredible. Saul Raisin came for it, too. For those of you not familiar see www.raisinhope.org.

Yesterday was the race #2 of the Summer Sprint Series at the Southside Speedway. With my car and girlfriend racing in Northern VA I figured riding to the track was my best option. It’s a great warm-up, however Hull St definitely isn’t the most commuter friendly route. As I’m nearing my destination a sudden drop in pressure and a wall of black clouds ahead of me suggest I should turn around and call it a day. At this point I’m thinking my teammate was right an hour earlier when he said, “You should really go Mountain Biking.” However I was almost there and well I’m committed. The bottom drops out and the winds pick up. Not only do I get soaked I get sand blasted. WHY IS THERE STILL SAND ON THE STREETS??? I reach my destination to find a few cars in the pit and some devoted individuals hanging out in the garage. I pull into the garage and BAM Tim Mullins hands me a beer. SOLID! Things are looking up. A few laughs are had a few more beers downed and the track dries up.

Scratch race off the bat was fast and fun. A quickly obliterated field saw three leaders form pretty quickly. Yes I was one of them and yeah the other two guys were teammates. Kazane Racing finished 3rd behind Carytown Bicycle Company. Next up was a one lap TT. I don’t get it and I think I never will. Oh well. Miss n out was next and is always a fun race, but it always seems to dumb found the officials. This is why you just keep killing it till someone says you’ve won or your done, Kazane Racing takes the Miss n Out. “Off the front or out the back, ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK!” The final races were a handicap race and my favorite, Australian pursuit. Handicap race was fun but the elite riders were unable to bridge to all the handicapped riders except for CBC’s Mullins who took the win. The Australian Pursuit is a cat and mouse game and you’re either a cat or a mouse. As a cat you can pounce on your prey right off the bat or sneak up on them with deathly stride. As a mouse you just run for dear life knowing the inevitable! I played the cat for half the race then found myself in a trap caught like a rat. Whomp whomp! All in all a great time and a great work out. Getting that leg speed up for the Working Man’s Classic.
