NRV 2

I really hope the New River Valley Omnium happens again next year. It was a well-organized race. Most people there had a good time. One person who didn’t was our own Andrew Thacker. He went down in the 3/4 and broke his clavicle and is having surgery on it next Monday. Let’s hope he has a speedy recovery.

The 3/4 Sunday was also marred by some dangerous and negative riding near the end. Jake and I were behind the last group of 5 or so when it happened but it was still going on in the parking lot afterwards. There is definitely no need for profanity and near-violence when there are families around. There were also people from the race venue and a Sheriff’s Deputy there, the type of people who might have a say in the decision to let the race happen next year.  As a race promoter I know that those kinds of shenanigans don’t help anyone.

NRV Omnium

The promoter for the NRV omnium is doing a great job. The TT course was very cool and tough. Kazane has Jake, Andy, Steve, D’wayne, and me in the. Not a good day for the TT. The day 1 crit was really windy. In the 3/4 no one can touch Jeff Craddock. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. It’s fun racing again. I’ll have some photos then, too.

New Races Abound in Southwest VA

We just officially announced our Civic Center Crit series tonight. This is the first sanctioned event of this type in Roanoke and Kazane Racing is happy to be behind it. We’re using the same loop as the old training crit. Times have changed and it’s hard to throw an unsanctioned race so we’re doing it with USAC. We hope that it grows into a bigger weekly event likes Richmond’s Bryan Park Series.

Speaking of new races, this weekend’s New River Valley Omnium is shaping up to be a great event. I like the idea of the evening time trial followed by two crits. Hopefully we’ll get a good crowd. If the event is successful this year it could grow into something bigger next year. Pulaski is a beautiful area and I’m sure there are bountiful road courses.

While I’m on that subject – the Rogues Omnium weekend at the end of July has the most brutally awesome road course anywhere.  If this race doesn’t fill up then you are all crazy. I’m the worst climber on the planet and even I’ll be there. The following day crit course is a lot of fun, too.

Don’t forget ID3. The state crit course is the old Saturn Cup loop. It is worthy of being the state crit because it’s the best course by far, plus the finish line is half a block from my shop.
